In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the intersectionality between neurodivergence, intellectual disabilities, and trauma. However, there is a lack of specialized training in diagnosing and treating trauma in individuals with these unique characteristics. This training program aims to bridge this gap by providing comprehensive education and practical tools for professionals working with neurodivergent and individuals with intellectual disabilities who have experienced trauma. We will begin by gaining a basic understanding of intellectual disabilities, neurodivergence, and trauma with a focus on the intersectionality of each. We will then explore how trauma manifests differently in these populations and what that means for diagnosis and treatment. Finally, we will discuss concrete strategies for the treatment of trauma in individuals with intellectual disabilities and neurodivergence.
